Richard Roberto

I have been painting in oils for nearly a decade, having taken workshops with a number of artists in San Francisco CA, Austin TX, and New Hope PA. Though not formally trained in an art school or atelier, the workshops provided foundational training in representational art.

If art is truth, then that’s what I want to paint. I want to capture the essence of my subjects as well as their likeness. I’d rather paint a portrait of somebody willing to be unguarded and reveal themselves — even if only in subtle nuances of expression — than paint glamour, which is usually just a facade. In order to paint “truth” I need to see it. And in order to do that, I need to take myself out of the equation and focus on the subject entirely.

Roberto Suzuki Art is a combination Richard’s surname, Roberto, and his wife’s maiden name, Suzuki.
